Biography

Carla Hernandez Castillo is a family law attorney and mediator, certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization, a designation held by a limited number of attorneys with demonstrated expertise in family law.

She has been an active member of the Sonoma County Bar Association since 2013 and has served on its Board of Directors since 2015. In 2025, she was selected to serve as President of the Association. She has also served on its Executive Committee and Judicial Evaluation Committee.

Ms. Hernandez Castillo is a past President of Sonoma County Women in Law, serving in that role in 2016 and 2020, and previously served on its Board of Directors. She has also been involved with Listening for a Change, where she served on the Board of Directors and as Chair from 2022 to 2023.

She earned her Juris Doctor from Empire College School of Law in 2011. During law school, she gained practical experience working with the Sonoma County Self-Help Access Center, which provides free legal services, and interned with the Alameda County Family Law Facilitator’s Office. She also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Shelly Averill prior to Judge Averill’s appointment to the bench.

Ms. Hernandez Castillo received her Bachelor of Science in Sociology, with an emphasis in Law and Society, from the University of California, Davis, and minored in Chicano/a Studies.

Since her admission to the California Bar in 2013, she has focused her practice exclusively on family law, representing clients in complex and sensitive matters with professionalism and care.
